Sports Dentistry
We believe that sports play an important part in life. Anyone who participates in sports is at a risk of injury. Dental injuries can be painful, disfiguring, expensive to treat and often require long-term management. Injuries can include cuts to the lips, gums, cheeks, tongue and face; chipped or broken teeth; knocked out teeth; and in severe cases a broken jaw. The good news is that these injuries are preventable if proper care is taken.
We understand that dental emergencies cannot be planned for and accidents can happen at any time. It is crucial to do the necessary first aid and an appointment with the dentist as soon as possible. A quick response can prevent complications in the future. We strive to make the best efforts to ensure you are seen as soon as possible. We have a range of appointments available for on the day visits reserved for emergencies.
Mouthguards
Springs Dental Group believes that ‘Precaution is better than Prevention’. In sports, mouthguards play a vital role in injury prevention. A well fitted mouth guard helps in absorbing the shock experienced by a blow to the face, which might otherwise result in an injury to the mouth or jaw.
We recommend that players should get custom-made mouthguards to protect teeth and mouth. Custom-fitted mouthguards are prepared by our dentist or a dental technician to fit the individual's mouth and provide the best protection due to their close fit, comfort and cushioning (shock absorption) effect.
Diet and Sports
Consumption of sports products, including sports drinks, intra-workout supplements and carbohydrate gels or sports lollies they are one of the primary reasons for teeth erosion and decay. Although sports drinks can positively impact the performance they need to be used carefully.
Soft Drinks, cordials and carbonated energy drinks are high in sugar content. Sugars are the primary food source for the bacteria on teeth. These bacteria metabolise the sugars and produce acids. These acids cause the decay of enamel and damage to the tooth structure.
